KOTTKE,
EMMETT WILLIAM, born February 15, 1918, peacefully passed away
Sunday, December 30, 2007. During his lifetime, Emmett dedicated
himself to his family, his church, the CPA profession, and his
community. Professionally, he was a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Ac-countants (Advisory Board),
National Association of State Boards of Accounting (past
president), Kentucky Society of CPAs (past president),
International Association of Accountants (KY delegate to New
York, Paris, Mexico City), and the Estate Planning Council of
Louisville (past president). Emmett also served the community in
many capacities: Boy Scouts of America (scoutmaster, District
Commissioner, Executive Board, honorary Advisory Council
Trustee), Wesley Community House (Exec. Comm.), Louisville Deaf
Oral School (Director), Louisville Deaf Oral School Foundation
(founder and past president), Jeff. Co. Budget Commission and
the Louisville Chamber of Commerce. Emmett's faith was the
center point of his life, having served St. Paul Methodist
Church (treasurer), St. Mark Methodist Church (charter member,
treasurer, trustee), Louisville District Board of Missions
(treasurer), Methodist Hospital Foundation (member); Eastern
University Campus Minis-try (Director) and trustees of Lindsey
Wilson College and Gen. Board of Pensions & Health Benefits of
the United Methodist Church. Clubs were blessed to have him as a
member: Kiwanis (director/treasurer), Jefferson Club (charter
member), Pendennis Club, U of L Alumni & Faculty Club,
Louisville Lodge #400 F&AM, Louisville Scottish Rite; Kosair
Temple; and Executives Club of Louisville (director). During
World War II, Emmett was a member of the US Army and Air Corps.
Up until two years prior to his death, Emmett was active in his
firm, Compton, Kottke & Associates, PSC, Certified Public
Accountants and served as chairman of the board from 1946, until
his death. Preceding him in death was his wife of 55 years,
Mildred Virginia "Midge"; his brother, Hugo; and his parents.
Survivors include his son, C. Douglas (Jan); his daughter,
Barbara (Terry Mattingly); sister, Elsie Stockburger (Dr.
Walker); he was "Grandy" to his grandchildren, Christopher
Kottke and Julie Kottke Valenti (Steven); great-granddaughter,
Katherine Valenti; stepgrandchildren, Kim Cloer (John), Greg
Mattingly, and Shelby Mattingly; and four stepgreat-grandchildren;
"Uncle Emmett" to numerous nieces and nephews (and families);
and his friend, Peg Harvin. Service of Life held at noon
Thursday at Pearson's Funeral Home, Breckinridge Lane, with a
graveside service following at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation
will be 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and 11:30 a.m. - noon on Thursday
at the funeral home. Contributions in honor of his memory, may
be made to: Lincoln Heritage Council Boy Scouts of America or
Emmett W. and Midge P. Kottke Scholarship Fund, at Lindsey
Wilson College.
